Why are many Isla Mujeres rental homes starting to look shabby?

Maintaining an Isla Mujeres rental home is far easy, and it's certainly not like as some imagine, maintaining a home in the States, so what is the difference between maintaining an Isla Mujeres property and a property in the States? What makes the difference is the weather; Isla Mujeres is a lovely place the live and vacation, but when it comes to weather it's definitely not San Diego.
We have ninety degrees humidity, very high temperatures for most of the year and extremely high salt content; if you stand by a street lamp on the Caribbean side of the island in the evening, you can see the clouds of salt billowing across from the sea, at first it appears to be a mist. All this takes it's toll on a property.
We have a full time maintenance person who works on our Isla Mujeres rental properties, it's expensive but we have found that it is the only way to keep our properties in top condition. We can do this because we have a number of properties. But the owner of just one property clearly can't have a dedicated maintenance person in attendance, so when things go wrong they have to call in contractors, or use the services of a maintenance company like Mundaca Real Estate.
They can quote a client for regular cleaning and gardening etc, but any additional work that crops up has to be paid for. So, they can take away some of the stress but not the cost.
The end result is that many owners become weary of dealing with unreliable contractors, not too mention the cost. Just as charities suffer from donor fatigue, Isla Mujeres rental property owners suffer from property maintenance fatigue.
