Why do retirees favor Isla Mujeres

There are many different reasons why couples decide to retire to Isla Mujeres, but there are a number of key attractions; security of course being an important consideration; the sense of being able to walk down a road at any time of the day or night, without fear of being attacked or robbed, something that is becoming increasingly difficult in many of America's cities. Woman have become particularly at risk of attacks as cities demographics have changed. Also being able to leave doors and windows open on Isla Mujeres, which many do, without the fear of being burgled. All these things contribute to one's overall sense of well being.

Then there is Isla Mujeres' weather, warm and comfortable weather for most of the year, with pretty much constant sunshine. Admittedly it does get rather hot in the summer months but there is a big difference between sitting in rush hour traffic in the sweltering heat than sitting in the shade on the beach with a cold drink. We can get hurricanes in the summer months, but it's not by any means a regular occurrence; we haven't had one for twenty years.

When it comes to where to live, there are so many options. Being wealthy is not a requirement in order to retire on Isla Mujeres. For those who are, the South Point is usually the choice for a home; it is considered the most exclusive part of the island, with an array of three, four, and even eight-bedroom properties, and the area is very tranquil compared to the busy center.

Many Americans who are not wealthy retire to Isla Mujeres and they often live in La Gloria, which is where the locals live, and whilst not cheap, relatively inexpensive comparted with other parts of the island such as the South Point and Say Bajo. La Gloria is where the locals live and great for those who want to experience real Mexico. The locals are friendly and welcome Americans as their neighbors.

So what are the downsides to retiring to Isla Mujeres? There are really no downsides apart perhaps healthcare. If treatment is required in hospital it is likely to be in Cancun. On the Island for consultations and all issues that are not are not immediately life threatening, we are fortunate to have Dr Greta. Dr Great is an English doctor who first came to the Island as a voluntary worker for the Red Cross in1988 and stayed, she has a wealth of experience, and is very kind.
