Is Isla Mujeres doomed?

Well, you would think so if talking to some people, they feel it's the end of the world. Isla Mujeres rentals have dropped as have property sales. Many blame Trump, and why not? They blame him for everything else.

Isla Mujeres Property  sales are few and far between at the moment, the drop-off started during the Biden administration and didn't, as many hoped, improve with Trump.  It's worth noting that this is not something that is limited to Isla Mujeres. It is pretty much worldwide. 

 People are just not booking as before. Some mention affordability, but it is unlikely to be much to do with affordability, at least not in the case of lsla Mujeres. Most of our Isla  Mujeres rental clients are wealthy; especially in these coming months; those who  have their crew bring down their boats during the fishing season. They are not booking as before, and they are amongst some of the most wealthy visitors to the island.

So is it the end of the world? Some seem to think so. But wait, haven't we seen so many ends of the world before?  Every time it is never going to recover - yet it does. A good example of this is the stock market. How many times have we seen panic when the market drops (as it always will)? 

Perhaps those nervous investors who panic when it does, shouldn't be investing in the stock market in the first place; so often people will tell you that they will never invest in the stock market, because they did once and lost money. They didn't lose money; the market crashed, they thought it was the end of the world, panicked and sold at the worst possible time.  All they had suffered up until the time they sold, was a paper loss.

So is isla Mujeres property doomed? Of course not, we have been investing here for the past twenty four years, we have seen dips before, especially during 2008 and then again in 2020 when they tried to force everyone to take an untested and unproven vaccine, and  to stay locked in their homes. As Colonel Douglas McGregor said, people we appallingly compliant.

Anyone thinking of buying a home on Isla Mujeres, should bear in mind that the biggest booms in property, tend to come after a lull in the market. We are gearing up for that now.
