As a general rule we tend not to check The National Hurricane Center website, or even talk or think about hurricanes. Just in case those who believe in the law of attraction are right i.e. that just by thinking or talking about something you can attract it. However, just this once we will look at the chance of Isla Mujeres being affected by a hurricane during 2025.
Realistically any Island in the Caribbean is always going to be in the firing line for a tropical storm or hurricane. Once a hurricane starts it is anyone's guess as to where it is going to end up, those on Isla Mujeres are praying that it is anywhere other than Isla Mujeres and those elsewhere in the Caribbean are doing likewise. Usually we see it building off the coast of Belize. There are some Caribbean islands that seem to suffer disproportionately; Jamaica, suffered two major hurricanes Gilbert in 1988, which was also a major hurricane for Isla Mujeres, and Ivan in 2004. Again last year.
Cuba seems to be disproportionally affected suffering up to eight hurricanes a year, whereas Isla Mujeres has gone twenty years without a hurricane. People say it has been a long time since we had a hurricane, so there is more chance we will have one soon but that isn't really the case. It is possible but not more probable. Probability takes into account the likelihood of something occurring; the fact that we haven't had a hurricane doesn't make it more likely. Of course if the deep state are manipulating the weather as some people believe, then the chances of a hurricane increase. However, it doesn't mean it will land on Isla Mujeres.
Earthquakes are dangerous and there is no warning, we are not in an earthquake zone and with hurricanes you have plenty of warning. They are more of an inconvenience; as long as you build properly and have hurricane proof glass you are pretty safe. It does of course depend where you are, on the Caribbean side of the island you are going to be hard hit. Our Isla Mujeres rental properties are on the other side overlooking the bay to Cancun, which is a very protected area.
